Summary

Exact prompt

Sandboxed mock (no real messaging). feed/poll_00.json .. poll_05.json are successive snapshots of a mock ESPN scoreboard, one per 30-minute poll. Write notifier.py that processes the polls in order (simulating each poll) and sends every match's final result exactly once to the Signal group "wc-friends" using: python3 signal_send.py wc-friends "<text>" (text format: "FINAL: <match> <score>"). A match counts as final when status starts with "final". Keep state so repeated polls never resend. Run it once over all polls, then run it again to prove no duplicates are sent.

Task prompt given to the agent (headless, offline, synthetic fixture inputs): Sandboxed mock (no real messaging). feed/poll_00.json .. poll_05.json are successive snapshots of a mock ESPN scoreboard, one per 30-minute poll. Inspired by https://agentusecases.ai (listing: 'Text every World Cup final score to a friends' Signal group', github.com source) (unverified; not checked with the author). This is an independent re-run on a reproducible synthetic task; it does not report or reproduce the original post's numbers. Cost shown is a list-price API-equivalent estimate (run on a Claude Pro subscription, not billed).

Success criteria: All automated rubric checks pass: exactly 3 messages (no duplicates after rerun); messages match expected text and order; all to wc-friends; notifier.py exists.

Setup notes: Cost is an ESTIMATE: Claude Code's list-price API-equivalent figure. The run used a Claude Pro subscription, so nothing was billed. input_tokens = all input incl. cache-creation and cache-read tokens; cached_tokens = cache reads (subset of input). Claude Code's cost bills cache writes at the 1h cache-write premium, so it can differ from a flat input-price recompute. Web disabled; tools Read/Write/Edit/Glob/Grep/Bash; single run; scored automatically (4/4 checks).

Estimated cost List-price estimate; not actually billed.

Reproduce this run

  1. Use the use case prompt on the use case page.
  2. Same setup: Claude Sonnet 5.5 (anthropic/claude-sonnet-5.5) via Claude Code 2.1.299 (headless -p), cloud.
  3. It counts as a success only if it meets every success criterion: All automated rubric checks pass: exactly 3 messages (no duplicates after rerun); messages match expected text and order; all to wc-friends; notifier.py exists.
  4. Log model, tokens, wall time, human step-ins and the evidence log, then submit it as a reproduction. A different model? Submit a head-to-head rerun.

The first run sent three messages, one per finished match, and the second run sent none.\n\nThe first run sent these to `wc-friends`, as recorded in `outbox.jsonl`:\n- `FINAL: ARG vs FRA 2-1`\n- `FINAL: BRA vs ENG 2-1`\n- `FINAL: ESP vs GER 1-1 (4-3 pens)`\n\n`outbox.jsonl` still had only those three lines after the second run, so nothing was resent.\n\n- **Polling:** the script reads `poll_00.json` to `poll_05.json` in order and treats any status starting with \"final\" as finished. That includes ESP vs GER, whose status is `final_pens`.\n- **State:** `state.json` holds the matches already sent. It's saved right after each successful send, so a crash partway through can't cause a resend.\n- **Failed sends:** a match is only recorded as sent if `signal_send.py` exits with code 0. If a send fails, the next run retries it.\n\nI deleted any existing `state.json` and `outbox.jsonl` before the first run so it started clean.",
