Summary
Exact prompt
# Settle a property manager's security deposits on move-out with interest, final-month proration, allowed deductions and a statement deadline Inputs: `tenancies.csv` (tenancy_id, unit, move_in, move_out, monthly_rent, deposit, final_month_paid, statement_sent), `charges.csv` (charge_id, tenancy_id, type, item, amount), `move-in-report.csv` (unit, item: conditions already recorded when the tenant moved in) and `deposit-rules.json` (interest_rate_pct, cleaning_cap, statement_days). All tenants and units are synthetic; amounts are in dollars. These rules are the record; where `leasing-note.txt` disagrees, the rules win. Rules: - Interest: deposit × interest_rate_pct / 100 × whole months held / 12, rounded half-up to the cent. Whole months held = the number of monthly anniversaries of move_in (same day number in a later month) that fall on or before move_out. - Final month: the rent owed for the move-out month is monthly_rent × (move_out's day number) / (number of days in that month), rounded half-up to the cent; final_rent_due = that amount − final_month_paid (negative means the tenant overpaid and is owed the difference). - Deductions: a charge of type wear is never deducted. A damage charge is deducted only if its item is not listed for the same unit in move-in-report.csv. Cleaning charges are deducted up to cleaning_cap in total per tenancy. unpaid_rent charges are always deducted. - Late statement: if statement_sent is more than statement_days days after move_out, nothing from charges.csv may be deducted for that tenancy (deductions = 0); final_rent_due still applies. - Balance: refund = deposit + interest − deductions − final_rent_due. If that is negative, report refund 0 and balance_due = the shortfall; otherwise balance_due is 0. - Write `out/deposits.json`: `{"tenancies": {"<tenancy_id>": {"interest": <dollars>, "final_rent_due": <dollars>, "deductions": <dollars>, "refund": <dollars>, "balance_due": <dollars>}, ...}, "total_refunded": <sum of refund>}`. ## How this run works - Work on your own: nobody will answer questions in this task, and writing to `ask/` counts against the run. - Write only under `out/`. Create `out/` if it is missing. Inputs are synthetic; don't fetch anything from the network. - Scoring is partial credit: each listed check is pass/fail, and the score is the share passed. Numbers are compared to within 0.005 unless the task says otherwise.
Settle the security deposits of synthetic tenants who moved out of a managed building. Interest accrues by whole monthly anniversaries, the final month's rent is prorated by the move-out day, normal wear and conditions on the move-in report are never deducted, cleaning is capped per tenancy, and a statement sent after the deadline voids every deduction. Statements land exactly on and one day past the deadline. A leasing note gets the proration, interest, wear and deadline rules wrong. Original benchmark task written for usecaserank.com (not based on a specific public post). Headless, offline run on a reproducible fixture. Each run's notes say how its cost was measured (estimates are marked).
Success criteria: interest final_month deductions late_statement balance
Setup notes: Batch 35 case tw02-property-deposit-dispositions (offline, synthetic inputs, seed 582526793). Autonomous case: no stand-in user and no step-ins expected; any file the solver wrote to ask/ is counted as a measured intervention (0) and blocks a pass. Prompt = TASK.md verbatim. Hidden key kept outside the solver's work dir. Scored with the case's scorer (python3 score.py WORKDIR KEYDIR, absolute paths); pass = every check true and no ask/ files. Tools: Read/Write/Edit/Glob/Grep/Bash, web disabled. Single run, no retries. 1-min load average at scoring 0.31 (8 cores). Time-zone results depend on the system time-zone database: tzdata 2026c-0+deb13u1 (Python zoneinfo). Claude Code's own reported cost for claude-opus-5.5: $0.145817. Score: 5/5. Cost is an ESTIMATE: measured tokens x pricing.json list price (Claude Pro subscription, nothing billed); input_tokens include cache reads and writes. Single run.
Estimated cost List-price estimate; not actually billed.

"result": "I've written the settlement for all 8 tenancies to `out/deposits.json`. The total refunded is **$22,186.15**, and one tenancy, TY-598, owes a balance. I calculated it with a short script and hand-checked one tenancy (TY-705); I didn't check the rest by hand.\n\n| Tenancy | Months held | Interest | Final rent due | Deductions | Refund | Balance due |\n|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|\n| TY-890 | 18 | 99.98 | \u2212723.67 | 0 (statement late, 20 days) | 3,786.15 | 0 |\n| TY-313 | 30 | 267.19 | 1,187.50 | 0 (statement late, 15 days) | 3,829.69 | 0 |\n| TY-541 | 27 | 142.38 | 454.13 | 0 (statement late, 15 days) | 2,500.75 | 0 |\n| TY-598 | 25 | 67.97 | 116.94 | 1,426.17 | 0 | 25.14 |\n| TY-387 | 32 | 204.75 | \u22122,128.23 | 289.19 | 5,456.29 | 0 |\n| TY-705 | 35 | 140.27 | \u2212367.74 | 1,605.19 | 1,040.32 | 0 |\n| TY-760 | 24 | 79.31 | \u2212454.84 | 0 | 2,296.65 | 0 |\n| TY-953 | 34 | 153.00 | \u2212812.90 | 89.60 | 3,276.30 | 0 |\n\nA negative final rent due means the tenant paid more than the prorated last month, and the difference is added to their refund.\n\n- **Leasing note ignored:** where it disagreed, I followed the rules file. Rent is prorated, not charged for the whole last month. Interest counts only monthly anniversaries, not calendar months. Wear charges are never deducted. The statement deadline is enforced.\n- **Late statements:** three tenancies (TY-890, TY-313, TY-541) had their statements sent more than 14 days after move-out, so none of their charges were deducted. TY-598 and TY-953 were sent on exactly day 14, which counts as on time.\n- **Damage already on record:** damage charges for items listed at move-in for the same unit weren't deducted. For example, TY-387's carpet stain wasn't deducted, but the bathroom mirror chip was. TY-760's door frame dent and TY-953's cracked tile were also dropped this way. TY-313's oven door hinge was on record too, though its charges were already cancelled by the late statement.\n- **Cleaning cap:** cleaning charges were limited to $150 in total per tenancy.\n\nAmounts were calculated exactly and rounded half-up to the cent.",
