Summary
Exact prompt
# Task: implement a config parser from a spec Implement `parse` and `getbool` in `rconf.py` exactly as described in `SPEC.md` (read every numbered rule; edge cases are graded). Python standard library only, no third-party packages. Keep the `RConfError(msg, line)` signature and set `.line` correctly. Write your own tests if you want. No network.
Every spec rule has an edge case in the hidden tests: first-separator rule, inline comments needing whitespace, escape errors, continuation legality, cross-section recursive interpolation with $$ and cycle detection, and exact error line numbers. Original benchmark task written for usecaserank.com (not based on a specific public post). Headless, offline run on a reproducible fixture. Each run's notes say how its cost was measured (estimates are marked).
Success criteria: 1. All 14 hidden unittest cases pass against rconf.py (60 s timeout), covering every numbered rule in SPEC.md including RConfError.line values.
Setup notes: Use Case Scout batch 5 case e02-conf-parser-spec (offline fixture). Prepared with batch5/prepare.sh; hidden key/tests kept outside the agent's work dir. Prompt = TASK.md verbatim. Scored with the scout's scorer: `python score.py WORKDIR KEYDIR`. Tools: Read/Write/Edit/Glob/Grep/Bash, web disabled. Single run, no retries. Claude Code's own reported cost for claude-haiku-5.5: $0.022189. Score: 14/14. Cost is an ESTIMATE: measured tokens x pricing.json list price (Claude Pro subscription, nothing billed); input_tokens include cache reads and writes. Single run.
Estimated cost List-price estimate; not actually billed.

Reproduce this run
- Use the use case prompt on the use case page.
- Same setup: Claude Haiku 5.5 (anthropic/claude-haiku-5.5, effort default (no --effort flag) · thinking on) via
Claude Code 2.1.299 (headless -p), cloud. - It counts as a success only if it meets every success criterion: 1. All 14 hidden unittest cases pass against rconf.py (60 s timeout), covering every numbered rule in SPEC.md including RConfError.line values.
- Log model, tokens, wall time, human step-ins and the evidence log, then submit it as a reproduction. A different model? Submit a head-to-head rerun.

"result": "`parse` and `getbool` are implemented in `rconf.py` per SPEC.md, using only the standard library. My 47 tests in `test_rconf.py` all pass (`python3 -m unittest test_rconf`).\n\nThe grader's edge cases are the real test, so these are the places where SPEC.md was silent or ambiguous and I chose a reading:\n\n- **Empty section name** (`[ ]`) is an error, since `\"\"` is reserved for keys before any section.\n- **Indented line after a section header or at the start of a section** is an error (rule 7 says continuations after a header are errors). So `[s]` followed by ` a = 1` fails. An indented key at the very start of the file is accepted as a normal key.\n- **Continuation after an empty value** (`a =` then ` foo`) gives `foo`, with no leading space.\n- **Inline comments** are detected on the raw text after the separator, so `a = # hi` gives `\"\"` and `a=#x` gives `#x`.\n- **Trailing text after `[name]`** is allowed only if it is whitespace or an inline comment.\n- **Escapes and interpolation** run in sequence for quoted values: escapes first, then `$$` and `${}`. A substituted value is not re-scanned, so `$${b}` yields the literal `${b}`.\n- **Reference names** are trimmed and lower-cased. A dotted name is tried as `section.key` first, then as a same-section key.\n- **Error lines for references**: an unknown reference or cycle reports the line of the value that contains the `${`. For a multi-line value, that is the line where the key starts.\n- **`getbool` errors**: a non-boolean value reports the line where the key was defined. A missing key raises `RConfError` with `line=None`, since there is no source line.\n- **`parse` return value** is a `dict` subclass with an extra `lines` attribute, used only for `getbool` error lines. It compares equal to a plain dict. Root section `\"\"` only appears if there are keys before the first header.\n- **Extras**: a leading UTF-8 BOM is stripped, and `parse` also accepts `bytes`.\n\nThis directory is not a git repository, so I made no commit.",
