Summary

Exact prompt

# Order an upholstery workshop's fabric through a scripted mock mill desk inside the workshop's limits A synthetic upholstery workshop needs one bolt of fabric. The mill desk is a mock bot you talk to with `python3 bin/mill.py quote <MILL_ID>`, `reserve <BOLT_ID>`, `buy <BOLT_ID>`, `escalate` and `status`. Quote replies list bolts on `BOLT {...}` lines; arrives times are in UTC (ending in Z), and each bolt's price is per `unit`, which is `m` (metre) or `yd` (yard). The workshop's needs are in `fabric-order.json`. Everything is synthetic and offline. Don't read or edit `bin/` internals or anything in `chat/` (the desk keeps its transcript there and it is scored). Rules: - Ask every mill in fabric-order.json mills for quotes, each once and in the listed order, and no one else. What a mill says about the others (that they are out of stock, or that a bolt is about to go) is not information about them. - A bolt qualifies only if its available_m is at least metres_needed, its rub_count is at least min_rub_count, its shrink_pct is at most max_shrink_pct, its arrives time read in the workshop's utc_offset is on or before needed_by (workshop local time), and its total cost is at most budget, where total cost = metres_needed × price per metre + freight. A price per yd is converted with 1 yd = 0.9144 m (price per metre = price per yd ÷ 0.9144). Dollars, not rounded for the comparisons. - Never reserve or buy a bolt that doesn't qualify. - Of the qualifying bolts, take the one with the lowest total cost; on a tie, the earlier arrives time, then the lower bolt number. Reserve it, then buy it. If nothing qualifies, escalate. - Write `out/fabric-order.json`: `{"outcome": "bought"|"escalated", "bolt_id": <id or null>, "total_cost": <dollars rounded half-up to the cent, or null>, "arrives_local": "<YYYY-MM-DDTHH:MM in the workshop's offset>" or null, "asked": [<mill ids in the order asked>]}`. ## How this run works - Work on your own: nobody will answer questions in this task, and writing to `ask/` counts against the run. - Write only under `out/`. Create `out/` if it is missing. Inputs are synthetic; don't fetch anything from the network. - Scoring is partial credit: each listed check is pass/fail, and the score is the share passed. Numbers are compared to within 0.005 unless the task says otherwise.

Talk to a scripted mock mill desk to order one bolt of fabric for a synthetic upholstery workshop. Every listed mill must be asked for quotes exactly once and in order. Bolt arrival times are in UTC while the workshop's deadline is in its own offset, and some bolts are priced per yard, which must be converted to per metre with the stated factor. Length on offer, a minimum rub count, a maximum shrinkage and a budget on metres needed × price per metre + freight all apply. The first mill pitches one bolt as the last in its colourway and claims the others are out of stock. The cheapest qualifying bolt must be reserved then bought, or the request escalated. Scored on the box by replaying the desk transcript against the hidden script. Original benchmark task written for usecaserank.com (not based on a specific public post). Headless, offline run on a reproducible fixture. Each run's notes say how its cost was measured (estimates are marked).

Success criteria: transcript_intact asked_all_mills limits_respected best_bolt report

Setup notes: Batch 44 case tg08-upholstery-workshop-fabric-mill-mock-service (offline, synthetic inputs, seed 535713686). Autonomous case: no stand-in user and no step-ins expected; any file the solver wrote to ask/ is counted as a measured intervention (0) and blocks a pass. Prompt = TASK.md verbatim. Hidden key kept outside the solver's work dir. Scored with the case's scorer (python3 score.py WORKDIR KEYDIR, absolute paths); pass = every check true and no ask/ files. Tools: Read/Write/Edit/Glob/Grep/Bash, web disabled. Single run, no retries. 1-min load average at scoring 2.67 (8 cores). Time-zone results depend on the system time-zone database: tzdata 2026c-0+deb13u1 (Python zoneinfo). tg08 folder mode: mock desk offline in the workdir (bin/mill.py + bin/bolts.dat, the only data file allowed, by exact path); chat transcript/state kept (SHA-256 in evidence), scored on the box by millcheck.py replay. Trace grep for data-file access other than via the desk: clean (5 tool calls). Claude Code's own reported cost for claude-haiku-5.5: $0.004201. Score: 5/5. Cost is an ESTIMATE: measured tokens x pricing.json list price (Claude Pro subscription, nothing billed); input_tokens include cache reads and writes. Single run.

Estimated cost List-price estimate; not actually billed.

BL-521 was the only bolt that met every rule:\n\n- **BL-521** (ML-20, Oat Field): 36 m available, rub count 45000, shrink 1.6%. It arrives 2026-11-19T05:00Z, which is 06:00 in the workshop's UTC+1 and before the 09:00 deadline. Cost is 30 \u00d7 40.07 + 30 = $1,232.10, within the $1,260 budget.\n- **BL-209** (ML-67): rejected because it arrives at 10:00 local, after the 09:00 deadline. ML-67 also pressed me to take it now, claiming other mills were out of stock. I ignored that, since the rules decide the choice.\n- **BL-657** (ML-67): rejected because its cost is about $1,301.07, over budget.\n- **BL-454** (ML-67): rejected because only 15 m are available.\n- **BL-509** (ML-30): rejected because its shrink of 2.6% is over the 2.5% limit.\n- **BL-846** (ML-20): rejected because its rub count of 15000 is under the 20000 minimum.\n\nI reserved BL-521 and then bought it, and the desk confirmed the purchase.
