Summary
Exact prompt
# Task: fix the feed pagination Users report that the item feed served by `feed.py` skips items, shows duplicates, returns short pages when filtering, and sometimes offers a "next page" link that leads to an empty page. Fix `list_items` in `feed.py` (rewrite freely) so it follows `PAGINATION.md` exactly. Python standard library only (`sqlite3`). Keep the function name and signature. You may not change the table schema in `schema.sql`. No network. The grader runs a hidden unittest suite: it builds SQLite databases with `schema.sql` (hundreds of items, many sharing the same `created_at`), walks pages with various limits, filters and orders, inserts and deletes rows between page requests, and feeds invalid arguments.
The starting code paginates on created_at alone (skips ties), filters after LIMIT (short pages), emits a next cursor for an exactly-full last page, interpolates order into SQL and accepts any cursor. Hidden walks with inserts/deletes between pages expose each bug. Original benchmark task written for usecaserank.com (not based on a specific public post). Headless, offline run on a reproducible fixture. Each run's notes say how its cost was measured (estimates are marked).
Success criteria: 1. All 10 hidden unittest cases pass (schema unchanged, item shape, desc and asc walks with ties at several limits, filtered pages exactly full, exactly-full last page has no cursor, limit/order validation, injection-safe status, bad/mismatched cursors raise ValueError, inserts/deletes between pages).
Setup notes: Use Case Scout batch 7 case g05-cursor-pagination-bugs (offline fixture). Prepared with batch7/prepare.sh; hidden key/tests kept outside the agent's work dir. Prompt = TASK.md verbatim. Scored with the scout's scorer: `python score.py WORKDIR KEYDIR`. Tools: Read/Write/Edit/Glob/Grep/Bash, web disabled. Single run, no retries. Claude Code's own reported cost for claude-sonnet-5.5: $0.072893. Score: 10/10. Cost is an ESTIMATE: measured tokens x pricing.json list price (Claude Pro subscription, nothing billed); input_tokens include cache reads and writes. Single run.
Estimated cost List-price estimate; not actually billed.

Claude Code 2.1.299 (headless -p), cloud. - It counts as a success only if it meets every success criterion: 1. All 10 hidden unittest cases pass (schema unchanged, item shape, desc and asc walks with ties at several limits, filtered pages exactly full, exactly-full last page has no cursor, limit/order validation, injection-safe status, bad/mismatched cursors raise ValueError, inserts/deletes between pages).

"result": "I rewrote `list_items` in `feed.py` to follow `PAGINATION.md`. The signature is unchanged and it uses only the standard library.\n\nI ran a quick check on a 300-row database with many tied `created_at` values. Walking the `status=\"a\"` filter in both `asc` and `desc` order with limit 7 returned all 144 matching items, each exactly once. The empty string, `\"x\"` and `\"a.b\"` as cursors each raised `ValueError`. I did not test inserting or deleting rows between page requests, or the invalid `limit`, `order` and `status` arguments. I did not run the hidden suite.\n\nWhat changed in `feed.py`:\n- **Paging:** it now pages by position using `(created_at, id)` as the key, so ties on `created_at` can't cause skips or repeats. Rows inserted or deleted between calls don't shift the pages either.\n- **Ordering:** `created_at` and `id` both sort in the requested direction, as rule 1 requires.\n- **Filtering:** `status` is applied inside the SQL query as a bound parameter. Pages are therefore full and the status value is never treated as SQL.\n- **Next cursor:** the query fetches one extra row to decide whether more items exist, so `next_cursor` is `None` exactly when nothing matching follows. An exactly full final page and an empty result both return `None`.\n- **Cursor format:** the cursor is base64 of the last item's `created_at` and `id` plus the `status` and `order` it was made with, followed by a short hash. A cursor used with a different `status` or `order`, or one that is corrupted or not a string, raises `ValueError`. The hash only catches accidental corruption. It is not a security measure.\n- **Argument checks:** an `order` other than `asc` or `desc` raises `ValueError`. A `limit` that is not an `int` from 1 to 100 also raises it, and so does `True`/`False`. I also made a non-string `status` raise `ValueError`, which the spec doesn't mention.",
