Summary
Exact prompt
# Task: migrate a small Node.js codebase from callbacks to async/await `lib/store.js`, `lib/inventory.js`, `lib/orders.js` use Node-style callbacks. Convert ALL three to promise-returning `async` functions (same function names and arguments minus the callback; results become resolved values, errors become rejections with the same messages). Keep behaviour identical, including order rollback on failure. While you're there, fix this reported bug: `removeStock` accepts zero/negative/NaN quantities; it must reject with the same message as `addStock` ("qty must be positive") and not change stock. Update `test/` to the new API and add tests. Run `npm test` (node --test). No new dependencies, no network.
Hidden node:test suite checks every API became promise-based, error messages preserved, rollback semantics kept, and the qty bug fixed. Partial migrations or rollback regressions fail. Original benchmark task written for usecaserank.com (not based on a specific public post). Headless, offline run on a reproducible fixture. Each run's notes say how its cost was measured (estimates are marked).
Success criteria: 1. Hidden node:test file is copied into test/ and `node --test test/` must exit 0 (60 s timeout); the agent's own tests in test/ must also pass. 2. Hidden tests check: store/inventory/orders functions return promises with the same results; errors become rejections with the original messages; addStock rejects 0/NaN; removeStock rejects zero/negative quantities with 'qty must be positive' and leaves stock unchanged; insufficient stock rejects without changes; listStock correct; fulfil succeeds and on failure rolls back already-removed lines. 3. No callback usage left in lib/*.js (no `cb(` / `callback(`) and each file uses async or Promise.
Setup notes: Use Case Scout batch 4 case d01-js-callbacks-to-async (offline fixture). Prepared with batch4/prepare.sh; hidden key/tests kept outside the agent's work dir. Prompt = TASK.md verbatim. Scored with the scout's scorer: `bash score.sh WORKDIR`. Tools: Read/Write/Edit/Glob/Grep/Bash, web disabled. Single run, no retries. Claude Code's own reported cost for claude-opus-5.5: $0.211989. Score: pass. Cost is an ESTIMATE: measured tokens x pricing.json list price (Claude Pro subscription, nothing billed); input_tokens include cache reads and writes. Single run.
Estimated cost List-price estimate; not actually billed.

"result": "I've converted all three modules to async functions, fixed the `removeStock` bug and rewritten the tests. `npm test` passes all 20 tests, and no dependencies were added.\n\n**What changed**\n- **`lib/store.js`**: `get`, `put` and `keys` now return promises. They keep the same 1 ms simulated delay, and `put` with a non-string key still fails with `key must be string`. `_reset` is unchanged.\n- **`lib/inventory.js`**: `addStock` and `removeStock` resolve to the new stock level and `listStock` resolves to `{sku: qty}`. Error messages are unchanged, and `listStock` still fetches all values at once.\n- **`lib/orders.js`**: `fulfil` still removes stock one line at a time. If any line fails, it puts back the lines already removed in their original order and resolves with `{status: 'rejected', reason}`. As before, a failed order resolves rather than rejects, and errors during the put-back are ignored.\n- **Bug fix**: `removeStock` now uses the same check as `addStock`, `!(qty > 0)`, before touching the store. Zero, negative, NaN and missing quantities reject with `qty must be positive` and leave stock unchanged, including for SKUs that don't exist yet.\n\n**Tests** (`test/basic.test.js`) cover:\n- the store functions and the non-string key error\n- what `addStock` and `removeStock` return, and the insufficient-stock case\n- the invalid quantities above for both functions, with checks that stock didn't change\n- `listStock`\n- `fulfil` for a successful order, an empty order, a failure on the first line, and a failure partway through. For the partway case I checked that stock is fully restored after both an insufficient-stock error and a bad quantity.\n\n**One thing I left alone:** the shared check accepts numeric strings. For example, `addStock('A', '3')` gets past it, and then `0 + '3'` stores the string `'03'`. Two of my first test cases expected strings to be rejected, and those were the only failures before I removed them. I kept the check as it was because the task asked for identical behaviour and the same rule as `addStock`. If you want only real numbers allowed, `typeof qty !== 'number'` would fix it, but that would change `addStock`'s behaviour too.",
