Summary

Exact prompt

# Task: implement a config parser from a spec Implement `parse` and `getbool` in `rconf.py` exactly as described in `SPEC.md` (read every numbered rule; edge cases are graded). Python standard library only, no third-party packages. Keep the `RConfError(msg, line)` signature and set `.line` correctly. Write your own tests if you want. No network.

Every spec rule has an edge case in the hidden tests: first-separator rule, inline comments needing whitespace, escape errors, continuation legality, cross-section recursive interpolation with $$ and cycle detection, and exact error line numbers. Original benchmark task written for usecaserank.com. Headless, offline run on a reproducible fixture. Cost shown is a list-price API-equivalent estimate (run on a ChatGPT subscription, not billed).

Success criteria: 1. All 14 hidden unittest cases pass against rconf.py (60 s timeout), covering every numbered rule in SPEC.md including RConfError.line values.

Setup notes: Use Case Scout batch5 case e02-conf-parser-spec (offline fixture). Prepared with batch5/prepare.sh on the shared box; only TASK.md + starting files were copied to the agent machine, hidden key/tests stayed on the box. Prompt = TASK.md verbatim on stdin. Flags: --json -s workspace-write --skip-git-repo-check --ephemeral --ignore-user-config --ignore-rules -C <workdir>. Scored on the box with the scout's scorer: `python score.py WORKDIR KEYDIR`. Single run, no retries. User-level AGENTS.md (846 bytes, sha256 83ec4fe50da8) may have been in context; --ignore-user-config does not document excluding it. Serving model not confirmed: requested via -m; the event log does not echo the serving model id. Price source is secondary (pricing.json verification='secondary', https://www.actuia.com/en/news/ai-api-pricing-in-october-2026-050-to-50-for-output/), not an official OpenAI price page. Score: 13/14. Cost is an ESTIMATE: measured tokens x pricing.json list price (ChatGPT plan, nothing billed); input_tokens include cached reads; output_tokens include reasoning tokens. Tool calls 6 (1 failed, recovered). Single run.

Estimated cost List-price estimate; not actually billed.

Reproduce this run

  1. Use the use case prompt on the use case page.
  2. Same setup: GPT-6.1 Sol (openai/gpt-6.1-sol, effort default (no reasoning-effort override) · thinking on) via Codex CLI 0.163.0 (codex exec --json), cloud.
  3. It counts as a success only if it meets every success criterion: 1. All 14 hidden unittest cases pass against rconf.py (60 s timeout), covering every numbered rule in SPEC.md including RConfError.line values.
  4. Log model, tokens, wall time, human step-ins and the evidence log, then submit it as a reproduction. A different model? Submit a head-to-head rerun.

Names are trimmed and case-insensitive (store lower-case). Keys before any section belong to section `\"\"`. Re-opening a section adds to it.\n4. `key = value` or `key: value` (first `=` or `:` wins). Keys are trimmed, case-insensitive (lower-case). A duplicate key in the same section: the last one wins.\n5. Unquoted values are trimmed; an inline comment starts at ` #` or ` ;` (whitespace then # or ;) and runs to end of line.\n6. A value wrapped in double quotes is taken literally (no inline comments), with escapes `\\\"` `\\\\` `\\n` `\\t`. Any other escape is an error. Text after the closing quote other than whitespace or an inline comment is an error.\n7. A line that starts with whitespace and follows a key line is a continuation: its trimmed text is appended to the previous (unquoted) value with a single space. Continuations after a comment/blank line or a section header are errors.\n8. `${key}` refers to a key in the same section; `${section.key}` to another section. References are resolved after the whole file is parsed, recursively; quoted values are interpolated too. `$$` is a literal `$`. An unknown reference or a cycle is an error.\n9. Typed accessors: `true/yes/on/1` and `false/no/off/0` (case-insensitive) are booleans; anything else is an error for `getbool`.\n10.
