Summary
Exact prompt
# Pay October's mileage claims Inputs: `employees.csv` (normal one-way commute in miles and business miles already claimed this tax year before October), `trips.csv` (October trip log) and `mileage-policy.json`. Work out each employee's mileage payment for October 2026. - Trips with purpose `commute` are not paid and don't count toward any total. - A business trip whose `start` is `home` has the employee's `commute_miles` deducted from its miles (never below 0). That deduction is not business mileage. - Business miles are paid at `rate_high` until the employee's tax-year business miles reach `threshold_miles`, then at `rate_low`. Take trips in date order (then trip_id); a trip that crosses the threshold is split at it. - Each passenger adds `passenger_rate` per business mile of that trip. - Work exactly; round only the reported figures, to 2 decimals half-up. Write `out/mileage.json`: `{"payment": {"<employee_id>": <October payment>, ...}, "business_miles": {"<employee_id>": <October business miles after deductions>, ...}, "total_payment": <sum of the rounded payments>}`. List every employee with a paid trip. ## How this run works - Work on your own: nobody will answer questions in this task, and writing to `ask/` counts against the run. - Write only under `out/`. Create `out/` if it is missing. Inputs are synthetic; don't fetch anything from the network. - Scoring is partial credit: each listed check is pass/fail, and the score is the share passed. Numbers are compared to within 0.005 unless the task says otherwise.
Pay staff mileage claims for a month from a trip log. The higher per-mile rate applies only until each person's tax-year business miles pass a threshold, which can happen partway through a trip, trips that start from home lose the person's normal commute, commuting trips pay nothing, and carrying a colleague adds a passenger supplement. Ignoring year-to-date miles, the commute deduction or the passenger rule each changes someone's payment. Original benchmark task written for usecaserank.com (not based on a specific public post). Headless, offline run on a reproducible fixture. Each run's notes say how its cost was measured (estimates are marked).
Success criteria: payments home_start_deduction threshold_split commute_and_passengers
Setup notes: Batch 22 case x05-mileage-reimbursement (offline, synthetic inputs, seed 152913930). Autonomous case: no stand-in user and no step-ins expected; any file the solver wrote to ask/ is counted as a measured intervention (0) and blocks a pass. Prompt = TASK.md verbatim. Hidden key kept outside the solver's work dir. Scored with the case's scorer (python3 score.py WORKDIR KEYDIR, absolute paths); pass = every check true and no ask/ files. Tools: Read/Write/Edit/Glob/Grep/Bash, web disabled. Single run, no retries. 1-min load average at scoring 0.68 (8 cores). Time-zone results depend on the system time-zone database: tzdata 2026c-0+deb13u1 (Python zoneinfo). Claude Code's own reported cost for claude-opus-5.5: $0.105548. Score: 4/4. Cost is an ESTIMATE: measured tokens x pricing.json list price (Claude Pro subscription, nothing billed); input_tokens include cache reads and writes. Single run.
Estimated cost List-price estimate; not actually billed.

I checked the figures against your rules but haven't independently re-added them by hand.\n\n| Employee | Business miles (after home deductions) | Payment |\n|---|---|---|\n| M30 | 498 | 230.00 |\n| M35 | 459 | 206.55 |\n| M40 | 984 | 295.10 |\n| M45 | 516 | 136.70 |\n| M50 | 565 | 266.35 |\n| M55 | 129 | 58.05 |\n| M60 | 1206 | 326.60 |\n| **Total** | | **1,519.35** |\n\nHow the rules were applied:\n- **Commute trips:** the 7 trips marked `commute` were left out entirely, as the brief says.\n- **Trips starting from home:** the employee's normal commute miles were taken off each one. None went below zero, so every employee had paid mileage.\n- **Threshold:** the year-to-date count runs on from each employee's miles already claimed before October. Three employees were already past 10,000 miles and were paid at 0.25 throughout. Where a trip crossed 10,000 miles, it was split at that point between 0.45 and 0.25.\n- **Passengers:** each passenger added 0.05 per business mile of the trip, using the miles left after any home deduction.\n\nThe calculation was done with exact decimals and only the reported figures were rounded (2 decimals, half-up). The total is the sum of the rounded payments.",
