Summary
Exact prompt
# Task: fix the feed pagination Users report that the item feed served by `feed.py` skips items, shows duplicates, returns short pages when filtering, and sometimes offers a "next page" link that leads to an empty page. Fix `list_items` in `feed.py` (rewrite freely) so it follows `PAGINATION.md` exactly. Python standard library only (`sqlite3`). Keep the function name and signature. You may not change the table schema in `schema.sql`. No network. The grader runs a hidden unittest suite: it builds SQLite databases with `schema.sql` (hundreds of items, many sharing the same `created_at`), walks pages with various limits, filters and orders, inserts and deletes rows between page requests, and feeds invalid arguments.
The starting code paginates on created_at alone (skips ties), filters after LIMIT (short pages), emits a next cursor for an exactly-full last page, interpolates order into SQL and accepts any cursor. Hidden walks with inserts/deletes between pages expose each bug. Original benchmark task written for usecaserank.com (not based on a specific public post). Headless, offline run on a reproducible fixture. Each run's notes say how its cost was measured (estimates are marked).
Success criteria: 1. All 10 hidden unittest cases pass (schema unchanged, item shape, desc and asc walks with ties at several limits, filtered pages exactly full, exactly-full last page has no cursor, limit/order validation, injection-safe status, bad/mismatched cursors raise ValueError, inserts/deletes between pages).
Setup notes: Use Case Scout batch 7 case g05-cursor-pagination-bugs (offline fixture). Prepared with batch7/prepare.sh; hidden key/tests kept outside the agent's work dir. Prompt = TASK.md verbatim. Scored with the scout's scorer: `python score.py WORKDIR KEYDIR`. Tools: Read/Write/Edit/Glob/Grep/Bash, web disabled. Single run, no retries. Claude Code's own reported cost for claude-haiku-5.5: $0.008595. Score: 10/10. Cost is an ESTIMATE: measured tokens x pricing.json list price (Claude Pro subscription, nothing billed); input_tokens include cache reads and writes. Single run.
Estimated cost List-price estimate; not actually billed.

Reproduce this run
- Use the use case prompt on the use case page.
- Same setup: Claude Haiku 5.5 (anthropic/claude-haiku-5.5, effort default (no --effort flag) · thinking on) via
Claude Code 2.1.299 (headless -p), cloud. - It counts as a success only if it meets every success criterion: 1. All 10 hidden unittest cases pass (schema unchanged, item shape, desc and asc walks with ties at several limits, filtered pages exactly full, exactly-full last page has no cursor, limit/order validation, injection-safe status, bad/mismatched cursors raise ValueError, inserts/deletes between pages).
- Log model, tokens, wall time, human step-ins and the evidence log, then submit it as a reproduction. A different model? Submit a head-to-head rerun.

"result": "I rewrote `list_items` in `feed.py` to follow `PAGINATION.md`. The brute-force checks pass (4 tests, all green), but they are my own tests, not the hidden suite.\n\n**What was wrong:**\n- The cursor held only `created_at`, so rows sharing a timestamp were skipped or repeated across page boundaries.\n- The status filter ran in Python after `LIMIT`, which produced short pages.\n- `next_cursor` was set whenever the raw row count equalled `limit`, so a full last page led to an empty next page.\n- `cursor=\"\"` was treated as the first page instead of raising `ValueError`.\n\n**What it does now:**\n- **Keyset paging on `(created_at, id)`:** the query uses row-value comparison and matches the existing `items_created` index. The status filter is in SQL, so every non-final page is full.\n- **Lookahead:** it fetches `limit + 1` rows. `next_cursor` is `None` exactly when nothing follows the page.\n- **Cursor:** it encodes order, status, `created_at`, and `id`, plus a short checksum. Anything malformed, non-string, or used with a different order or status raises `ValueError`.\n- **Validation:** `order` must be `\"desc\"` or `\"asc\"`. `limit` must be an int from 1 to 100, and `bool` is rejected even though it is an `int` subclass.\n\n**Choices I made that the spec didn't cover:**\n- A non-string, non-`None` `status` raises `ValueError`.\n- The cursor checksum is a corruption check, not a security mechanism.\n\n**Verification:** the test script is at `/tmp/feedcheck/check_feed.py`, outside the project. It checks every limit, both orders, several filters, and an empty filter result against a brute-force reference, using 300 rows with heavy timestamp ties. It also walks pages while inserting and deleting rows, and covers invalid arguments and mismatched or corrupted cursors. Its `ResourceWarning` lines come from unclosed connections in the test helper, not from `feed.py`.\n\nThe repo is not under git, so I did not commit anything. `schema.sql` and `PAGINATION.md` are unchanged.",
