Summary

Exact prompt

# Triage the overnight incident reports Input: `reports.json`, 30-45 free-text incident reports. Each has a reporter-chosen priority label, which is often wrong. Judge severity from what the text says actually happened. Severity rules: - SEV1: any exposure of one customer's data to another party, or data loss, affecting external customers; or at least 20% of external users blocked with no workaround. - SEV2: at least 5% of external users blocked (with or without a workaround), unless it is SEV1; or data loss affecting internal users only. - SEV3: any other impact on external users (for example slowness, or a cosmetic problem). - SEV4: everything else (internal users only, no data loss). - "Blocked" means users cannot complete the task at all. A workaround counts only if users can apply it themselves. - Shares may be given as a percentage, as "N of M", or as "1 in N". Write `out/triage.json`: `{"severity": {"<report_id>": "SEV1" | "SEV2" | "SEV3" | "SEV4", ...}, "page_now": [<SEV1 report ids, sorted>], "top5": [<5 report ids>]}`. top5 = the five most urgent reports: by severity, then by larger share of users affected, then by report id. ## How this run works - Work on your own: nobody will answer questions in this task, and writing to `ask/` counts against the run. - Write only under `out/`. Create `out/` if it is missing. Inputs are synthetic; don't fetch anything from the network. - Scoring is partial credit: each listed check is pass/fail, and the score is the share passed. Numbers are compared to within 0.005 unless the task says otherwise.

Assign severities to 30-45 free-text incident reports from what each report says happened: who is affected (customers or staff), what share (as a percentage, 'N of M' or '1 in N'), whether users are fully blocked, whether a self-service workaround exists, and any data exposure or loss. Reporter labels and alarmed or casual tone are deliberately unreliable. Scoring checks the paging list, every severity and the top-5 order. Original benchmark task written for usecaserank.com (not based on a specific public post). Headless, offline run on a reproducible fixture. Each run's notes say how its cost was measured (estimates are marked). Folder-restore note: this run's output files under work/out/ were lost in a 1:22 AM ET restore on Oct 21, 2026. The trace, step-in exchanges and output-hash list were checked against the recorded SHA-256 values and match; the hashes of the individual output files inside that list can no longer be recomputed. Measured data unchanged.

Success criteria: page_now all_severities workaround_judged internal_vs_external labels_overridden top5

Setup notes: Batch 18 case t02-incident-severity-triage (offline, synthetic inputs, seed 23809555). Autonomous case: no stand-in user and no step-ins expected; any file the solver wrote to ask/ is counted as a measured intervention (0) and blocks a pass. Prompt = TASK.md verbatim. Hidden key kept outside the solver's work dir. Scored with the case's scorer (python3 score.py WORKDIR KEYDIR, absolute paths); pass = every check true and no ask/ files. Tools: Read/Write/Edit/Glob/Grep/Bash, web disabled. Single run, no retries. 1-min load average at scoring 0.12 (8 cores). Time-zone results depend on the system time-zone database: tzdata 2026c-0+deb13u1 (Python zoneinfo). Claude Code's own reported cost for claude-haiku-5.5: $0.00815. Score: 6/6. Cost is an ESTIMATE: measured tokens x pricing.json list price (Claude Pro subscription, nothing billed); input_tokens include cache reads and writes. Single run.

Estimated cost List-price estimate; not actually billed.

Reproduce this run

  1. Use the use case prompt on the use case page.
  2. Same setup: Claude Haiku 5.5 (anthropic/claude-haiku-5.5, effort default (no --effort flag) · thinking on) via Claude Code 2.1.299 (headless -p), cloud.
  3. It counts as a success only if it meets every success criterion: page_now all_severities workaround_judged internal_vs_external labels_overridden top5
  4. Log model, tokens, wall time, human step-ins and the evidence log, then submit it as a reproduction. A different model? Submit a head-to-head rerun.

It parses, and the page-now list and top five are as shown below.\n\n- **page_now (SEV1, 10 reports):** INC-4008, 4033, 4086, 4122, 4127, 4144, 4181, 4192, 4213, 4250.\n- **top5:** INC-4033, 4086, 4181 (all 50% of users), then INC-4127 (30%), then INC-4008 (25%).\n\nJudgement calls that affect the output:\n\n- **Customers vs. employees:** I treated \"customers\" as external and \"employees\", \"finance team\", \"internal staff\" and \"support agents\" as internal.\n- **Workarounds:** \"private browser window\" and \"switch to the desktop site\" count as workarounds the user can apply, so those reports are blocked-with-workaround. Under the rules that makes them SEV2 rather than SEV1 (INC-4042, 4067, 4164, 4168, 4243). \"Support has no workaround\" and \"clearing cache does not help\" count as no workaround.\n- **Data exposure:** INC-4144 has a screenshot showing another customer's shipping address, so I classed it SEV1 on the exposure rule, even though its stated share is only a misaligned-button complaint affecting about 25%.\n- **Data loss:** INC-4033 and INC-4192 wiped saved drafts for external customers, so both are SEV1. INC-4002 wiped drafts for internal finance staff only, so it is SEV2.\n- **Share thresholds:** INC-4168 is exactly 5% and is SEV2. INC-4117 (3% stuck, nothing gets through) and INC-4021 (1 in 25 = 4%) fall below 5%, so they are SEV3. INC-4200 (15%) and INC-4254 (15%) are blocked with no workaround but under 20%, so they are SEV2.\n- **Labels ignored:** reporter priority labels and \"THIS IS A DISASTER\" wording were disregarded; severity follows the impact described.",
