Summary

Exact prompt

# Triage the overnight incident reports Input: `reports.json`, 30-45 free-text incident reports. Each has a reporter-chosen priority label, which is often wrong. Judge severity from what the text says actually happened. Severity rules: - SEV1: any exposure of one customer's data to another party, or data loss, affecting external customers; or at least 20% of external users blocked with no workaround. - SEV2: at least 5% of external users blocked (with or without a workaround), unless it is SEV1; or data loss affecting internal users only. - SEV3: any other impact on external users (for example slowness, or a cosmetic problem). - SEV4: everything else (internal users only, no data loss). - "Blocked" means users cannot complete the task at all. A workaround counts only if users can apply it themselves. - Shares may be given as a percentage, as "N of M", or as "1 in N". Write `out/triage.json`: `{"severity": {"<report_id>": "SEV1" | "SEV2" | "SEV3" | "SEV4", ...}, "page_now": [<SEV1 report ids, sorted>], "top5": [<5 report ids>]}`. top5 = the five most urgent reports: by severity, then by larger share of users affected, then by report id. ## How this run works - Work on your own: nobody will answer questions in this task, and writing to `ask/` counts against the run. - Write only under `out/`. Create `out/` if it is missing. Inputs are synthetic; don't fetch anything from the network. - Scoring is partial credit: each listed check is pass/fail, and the score is the share passed. Numbers are compared to within 0.005 unless the task says otherwise.

Assign severities to 30-45 free-text incident reports from what each report says happened: who is affected (customers or staff), what share (as a percentage, 'N of M' or '1 in N'), whether users are fully blocked, whether a self-service workaround exists, and any data exposure or loss. Reporter labels and alarmed or casual tone are deliberately unreliable. Scoring checks the paging list, every severity and the top-5 order. Original benchmark task written for usecaserank.com (not based on a specific public post). Headless, offline run on a reproducible fixture. Each run's notes say how its cost was measured (estimates are marked). Folder-restore note: this run's output files under work/out/ were lost in a 1:22 AM ET restore on Oct 21, 2026. The trace, step-in exchanges and output-hash list were checked against the recorded SHA-256 values and match; the hashes of the individual output files inside that list can no longer be recomputed. Measured data unchanged.

Success criteria: page_now all_severities workaround_judged internal_vs_external labels_overridden top5

Setup notes: Batch 18 case t02-incident-severity-triage (offline, synthetic inputs, seed 15222865). Autonomous case: no stand-in user and no step-ins expected; any file the solver wrote to ask/ is counted as a measured intervention (0) and blocks a pass. Prompt = TASK.md verbatim. Hidden key kept outside the solver's work dir. Scored with the case's scorer (python3 score.py WORKDIR KEYDIR, absolute paths); pass = every check true and no ask/ files. Tools: Read/Write/Edit/Glob/Grep/Bash, web disabled. Single run, no retries. 1-min load average at scoring 0.21 (8 cores). Time-zone results depend on the system time-zone database: tzdata 2026c-0+deb13u1 (Python zoneinfo). Claude Code's own reported cost for claude-sonnet-5.5: $0.06593. Score: 2/6. Cost is an ESTIMATE: measured tokens x pricing.json list price (Claude Pro subscription, nothing billed); input_tokens include cache reads and writes. Single run.

Estimated cost List-price estimate; not actually billed.

Reproduce this run

  1. Use the use case prompt on the use case page.
  2. Same setup: Claude Sonnet 5.5 (anthropic/claude-sonnet-5.5, effort default (no --effort flag) · thinking on) via Claude Code 2.1.299 (headless -p), cloud.
  3. It counts as a success only if it meets every success criterion: page_now all_severities workaround_judged internal_vs_external labels_overridden top5
  4. Log model, tokens, wall time, human step-ins and the evidence log, then submit it as a reproduction. A different model? Submit a head-to-head rerun.

"result": "I triaged all 40 reports and wrote the result to `out/triage.json`. I classified them by hand from the report text, ignoring the reporter's priority labels. I haven't re-checked the file after writing it.\n\n- **Page now (SEV1, 8 reports):** INC-4040, INC-4046, INC-4081, INC-4085, INC-4097, INC-4140, INC-4184, INC-4204.\n - INC-4046 and INC-4204 show someone else's shipping address on screen. I counted that as exposure of customer data even though INC-4204 was seen by internal staff.\n - INC-4081 has submissions missing from the database for external customers, which is data loss.\n - The other five block at least 20% of customers with no workaround.\n- **SEV2 (7 reports):** INC-4102, INC-4105, INC-4120, INC-4135, INC-4157, INC-4162, INC-4230. INC-4102 is internal-only data loss. INC-4162 blocks 15% of customers with no workaround, which is under the 20% SEV1 line. The rest block at least 5% of customers who can work around it themselves.\n- **SEV3 (14 reports):** external-only impact such as slowness, cosmetic problems and warning banners. INC-4176 is here because 20 of 2,000 customers (1%) is below the 5% blocked threshold.\n- **SEV4 (11 reports):** internal users only with no data loss. I treated \"support agents\", \"staff\" and \"employees\" as internal, and \"customers\" as external.\n- **Top 5:** INC-4040, INC-4097, INC-4085, INC-4046, INC-4140. INC-4040 and INC-4097 are at 60% each. INC-4085 is next at 25%. INC-4046, INC-4140 and INC-4184 are all at 20%, so the id tie-break puts INC-4046 and INC-4140 in ahead of INC-4184.",
