Summary

Exact prompt

# Check crew rosters against duty-time limits Inputs: `crew.csv` (crew id and home-base time zone), `duties.csv` (duty periods in UTC, merged from the roster system and a second import). Rules: - The second import repeats some duties under a differently formatted id ("D-00123" vs "D00123"). Duties with the same crew, report time and release time are one duty. Report duty ids as "D" followed by the digits only, e.g. "D00123". - long_duty: duties longer than 13 hours (exactly 13:00 is allowed). - short_rest: duties whose rest since the same crew member's previous release is less than 10 hours (exactly 10:00 is allowed). List the later duty. - over_60h_168h: crew members who have more than 60 hours of duty inside any rolling 168-hour window (any start time, not calendar weeks). Duty time is counted only where it overlaps the window. - seven_day_runs: crew members who report for duty on 7 or more consecutive calendar dates, using the local date of each report time in the crew member's home-base time zone. - Every list is sorted. Write `out/limits.json`: `{"long_duty": [...], "short_rest": [...], "over_60h_168h": [...], "seven_day_runs": [...]}`. ## How this run works - Work on your own: nobody will answer questions in this task, and writing to `ask/` counts against the run. - Write only under `out/`. Create `out/` if it is missing. Inputs are synthetic; don't fetch anything from the network. - Scoring is partial credit: each listed check is pass/fail, and the score is the share passed. Numbers are compared to within 0.005 unless the task says otherwise.

Check about 1,400 duty periods for 40-55 crew members against four limits: maximum duty length, minimum rest, 60 hours in any rolling 168 hours, and seven consecutive local duty dates. A second import repeats some duties under reformatted ids. Rest and duty lengths sit exactly on the limits on purpose, and 'consecutive days' is judged on home-base local dates rather than UTC. Original benchmark task written for usecaserank.com (not based on a specific public post). Headless, offline run on a reproducible fixture. Cost shown is a list-price estimate (measured tokens x the site's price table). Run stopped early: run cost cap $0.05 reached (cap set for this run: $0.05). A run stopped at its cost cap counts as a fail. The scorer was run on what the agent had produced by then: 4/4.

Success criteria: long_duty short_rest rolling_168h seven_day_runs

Setup notes: Batch 17 case s06-crew-duty-limits (offline, synthetic inputs, seed 3184423121). Autonomous case: no stand-in user and the agent never needs to check with the user; any file the solver wrote to ask/ is counted as a measured intervention (0) and blocks a pass. Prompt = TASK.md verbatim. Hidden key kept outside the solver's work dir. Scored on the box with the case's scorer; pass = every check true and no ask/ files. Tools: list_files/read_file/write_file/run_shell (venice-mini-agent v1.3), web disabled. Single run, no retries. 1-min load average at scoring 0.86 (8 cores). Time-zone results depend on the system time-zone database: tzdata 2026c-0+deb13u1 (Python zoneinfo). Harness: venice-mini-agent v1.3.1 via the Venice OpenAI-compatible API: same tool loop, system prompt and limits as the cases 02-25 Venice runs (max 25 turns, max 16,000 output tokens per call, temperature 0.2, Venice system prompt and web search off, per-run cost cap $0.05, thinking on (model default)). Same task text, work-dir layout and scorer as the Claude runs of this case. Cost = measured per-call tokens x Venice list price; paid from the Venice DIEM daily allowance. Run ended early: run cost cap $0.05 reached. Stopped at its cost cap $0.05 ($0.052901 over 11 turns), so it counts as a fail. Its leftover output scored 4/4 on the scorer. Harness: venice-mini-agent v1.3.1 via Venice OpenAI-compatible API (max 16,000 output tokens per call, $0.05 run cap). Score: 4/4. Cost is an ESTIMATE: measured per-call tokens x Venice list price (paid from Venice DIEM allowance; Venice billing not itemized). input_tokens include cached reads. Single run.

Estimated cost List-price estimate; not actually billed.

Reproduce this run

  1. Use the use case prompt on the use case page.
  2. Same setup: Gemma 4 31B Instruct (Venice) (venice/google-gemma-4-31b-it, thinking on) via venice-mini-agent v1.3.1, cloud.
  3. It counts as a success only if it meets every success criterion: long_duty short_rest rolling_168h seven_day_runs
  4. Log model, tokens, wall time, human step-ins and the evidence log, then submit it as a reproduction. A different model? Submit a head-to-head rerun.

"reasoning_content": "The `duties.csv` file seems to be truncated in the `read_file` output. I should check if it's actually truncated or if it's just the way `read_file` works. Wait, the `read_file` output ends with `C6499,D14968,2026-10-13T`. This is definitely truncated. I should use `run_shell` with `cat` or read the file in chunks if necessary, but `read_file` should normally read the whole file. Let me try to read it again or use `cat`.\n\nActually, I'll write a python script to process the files. This is the most reliable way to handle the logic and the potentially large files.\n\nPlan:\n1. Read `crew.csv` and `duties.csv`.\n2. Clean `duties.csv`:\n - Normalize `duty_id` (remove hyphens).\n - Remove duplicates based on `crew_id`, `report_utc`, and `release_utc`.\n3. Implement the checks:\n - `long_duty`: duration > 13 hours.\n - `short_rest`: rest < 10 hours between consecutive duties for the same crew.\n - `over_60h_168h`: > 60 hours of duty in any rolling 168-hour window.\n - `seven_day_runs`: 7+ consecutive calendar dates of report in home-base time zone.\n4. Sort the results and write to `out/limits.json`.\n\nLet's refine the `over_60h_168h` check. A rolling window can start at any time. The duty time is the overlap of the duty period and the window.\nFor a window $[t, t + 168h)$, the duty time is $\\sum \\max(0, \\min(release, t + 168h) - \\max(report, t))$.\nThe maximum of this sum over all $t$ should be $\\le 60h$.\nActually, the window start time $t$ could be any time. However, the maximum of this sum will occur when $t$ is either a report time or a release time minus 168h.\n\nWait, the `seven_day_runs` check: \"7 or more consecutive calendar dates, using the local date of each report time in the crew member's home-base time zone.\"\nI need to use the `pytz` library or `zoneinfo` (available in Python 3.9+) to handle time zones.\n\nLet's write the python script.",

That should be correct.\nWait, I might have had a typo in the tool call? No, it looks fine.\nLet me try to run it again, but I'll make sure the `path` is definitely there.\n\nWait, I see what happened. I might have used a different tool or something.
